These last couple weeks have seemed like a crazy, busy blur at times. There was moments Emily, and I were so tired we couldn't keep our eyes open much longer. We had been pulling shifts from 6pm- 2am. Then the morning rush with waking up at 8/9am to tend to family needs and balance orders to prepare for delivery and scheduled drop off at the Meraki Exchange.
When Emily and I started this Business, we fell in love with decorating these fun and elaborate full scale cakes and cupcakes. It wasn't even a thought to start making sourdough bread. I hadn't even attempted to bake sour dough bread, for my family and one day I just tried it.
That one day would quickly change the course of our business and be exactly what we didn't know we needed.
I had always wanted to try to make my own breads but always had been intimidated to do it. Yeast scared me and the idea that I would fail stopped me from even trying. One Day Savannah helped me take control of that fear and showed me how yeast worked. Once she taught me the science with yeast and breads, I was hooked. (No pun intended. if you know, you know ;)
But there was still this intimidating sourdough bread that I yearned to learn, and I would have to be self-taught. So, I jumped in. Started my first starter and once I discovered that it came easy to me... I knew it would forever be part of my life.
I had no idea just how much it would impact our business until I started listing the regular sourdough loaves for sale. It started with only a couple here and there but when the loaves started having a slight demand... I shifted my gears towards featuring them regularly on our page. People would stop by for farm pick up and appointments and then it evolved into sourdough muffins, bread bowls, cookies, and more.
Now Sourdough is one of the primary offerings of our business with the enjoyment and challenge from custom cake orders that we have the privilege to serve custom cake, and cupcake orders ranging from a treat for the day and birthday to those life changing special days such as weddings, baby showers, and anniversaries.
Customers have been so amazing for supporting us with their business and following our journey via those precious in-person visits to our social media realizing that we are more than just homestead bakers. We are bringing a standard of quality through our passion of both the taste and craft with our baked goods from our kitchen to your table.
